So many rude people in Florida.

Sometimes I wonder what causes it. The heat? The crowding? The need to make tons of money because everything is overpriced? No matter what the reason, one thing is for certain, and that is that rude people Rule Florida.

Before I start, let me say that since my job is inside, I go outside when I need to buy food, get away etc. Hardly ever, though. In that short space of time in between home and car, and sometimes IN car, here are some of my stories.

Encounters:
It was a hot sunny day. I decided to go to the movie theater. I was drizzling butter over my popcorn when this lady literally takes her long-fingernailed pointer finger and uses it to "poke" me out of the way. When I moved I looked back at her squished face and snotty child and their blank stares let me know maybe she didn't even know what she did.

Pet store: Aquatic Life on Luckhardt street. These people are just plain rude. The cashiers throw your purchases at you, literally, and when you ask to buy fish (2.50 for a goldfish), the salespeople tell you no. "You don't want to throw in a sacrificial lamb" one told me. Nutso.

My neighbor lives with her daughter's daughter.. and the little girl comes over all the time. I can hear her screaming, and I look out and she is sitting by my car with trash all around her. I told her to leave but she didn't, just gave me a look and threw a paper plate down on my lawn. I walked outside to get the mail one day and saw her breaking my cactus, laughing. Everything that we keep outside she has broken.

My neighbors-LOUDEST Cubans EVER. They actually SCREAM. During the day, night, whatever. In the morning they bang and smash stuff, it sounds like kids banging pots together constantly. They throw their garbage all over the place. My neighbor that lives 4 houses down says SHE can hear them inside. I told her she wouldn't want to live next to them, then.

COUNTLESS lousy drivers.. driving too slow, driving too fast, swerving around, going super slow then not using a turn signal, trying to turn when they can't, speeding towards me, halfway in my lane, and honking, almost hitting my car. Countless encounters of that. It seems no one in Florida can drive.

The Employers. Wal-mart has said countless harassing things to me, one being "You don't work hard enough. Look at Tony, he is a great worker". They won't give you any respect if you're a female. Publix in Stuart is just as bad. The head manager walks around saying things like, "If you two put your heads together, you can do it, since you both have half a brain". Said to me on my 2nd day, to me and the Cake Decorator.

Mexicans walking down streets. They yell all day like they're on Jerry Springer. When I look out they yell things like, "I'll kill your mom". etc etc.
Real ignorant.

Cars honk for no reason, people are indescribably rude.. Anyone want to switch houses? ^__^

I just left Florida after 3 years, and it is not a fun place.

Three reasons:

  1.  Tourist mentality--people on vacation often follow a different set of rules than when they are at home--less accountablity = bad manners.  It bleeds into the culture.

  2.  Warm weather cultures foster a lack of work ethic--food grows on trees, and no one freezes to death if they don't pay the electric bill.

  3.  The average age is high, and retirees (the ones that I know) are not inclined to vote for tax increases that provide enhancements in social services (schools, parks, etc.) They can't--it's not like they're bad people--fixed incomes.

You should move if you're that miserable--you've identified the problem, now deal with it.

Your right, I used to be a trucker, and FL is no place for truckers. People there are so rude, mean, and the weather is too hot. Why is it so popular I will never know. I never want to go back. NEVER.

We used to go to Florida a lot when I was a little kid.  I never planned on going back, but I was going to South America on vacation and got stuck in Miami for a couple of days. Unbelievable rude people- I usually tip like crazy but the service was so universally bad down there that I ended up saving a fortune....And for the love of god, people, can you get some culture?  There's literally nothing to do in Miami when it rains.

I fully agree.  I have never even been to Florida because of the fact that everyone I have EVER met from Florida is rude and stupid. My observations:  One of them takes gifts greedily and rarely if ever reciprocates.  One of them always gets into and out of the elevator before elderly, women, handicapped, etc. At least one of them can't add, much less subtract or multiply.  One of them blatantly admires women in the presence of his soon not to be girlfriend. At least one of them is related to Elian Gonzalez.  At least one of them drives too slowly.  At least one of them smells like dirty laundry.  At least one of them hasn't visited the dentist in 10 years. One of them houses illegal aliens.  One of them gawks and remarks how awful (old and too skinny) someone looks on the treadmill at the gym.  One of them rarely if ever acknowledges the presence of others, as in not once saying a proper polite "good morning" to anyone. One of them feels that everyone should feel grateful for a hello from them, and that the gesture should be treasured till the end of time. At least one of them ranks himself as god's equal. I have no desire to go to Florida. ever.
