It still amazes me how little self respect and pride this present Generation has. It's not just the "homeless look" in clothing style that they have adopted(I have dressed better to cut my yard than some of these types wear out to dinner). It's not the fat slob bodies they walk around with(especially the girls with their tube tops with lard rolls hanging over jeans that are three sizes to small)or the "tackle box jewelry" of fish hooks and rings that cover their faces.Or the oversizes jeans that hang below their butts.

No it's the rude ill mannered nature of these types. They are spoiled little brats that cut in line in front of people at Sub shops. Then when they are called on it they scream obscenities that would make a Truck Driver blush!Or the usual Rap trash that blast out of the speaker's of their cars spewing hate and hostility. It is a shame that this Generation is void of any happiness in their lives. You can tell by their attitude, rudeness,no manners, hostile music, anger.Of course you have to wonder about the Parents that had these "Upstanding Youths".What is your opinion??

...kids these days! (none / 0) (#1)
by Mazz on Sat May 12, 2007 at 08:58:49 PM EST
I knew I was finally old, when I found myself referring to "kids these days"!  People have been saying this about kids for centuries.  I think the clothes now are awful too, esp the baggy look, but my parents HATED what I wore!  Okay, I was a punk in the late 70's, so I gave them good reason ;)

As a member of the generation in question, I have to say that you seem kind of rude yourself. Yes, I do have some rude peers, but I also have rude elders who act as though they have no sense. Some of us youngsters are doing things with our lives and contributing to a better world, and I am appalled that someone who seems to be claiming some sort of moral high ground is blatantly ignoring that. Let's have enough sense to differentiate between the good ones and the bad ones. You seem kind of bitter that you've lost your own youth.

...now is that polite?

What about adults these days? (none / 0) (#3)

I am 13 years old so I don't know if "generation X" applies to me, but I think that your observation of "rudeness" was extremely judgemental and general. Not everyone in my generation dresses as sloppily as you say, it's mostly inner-city kids with no parental figures to guide them. As for the "rolls of fat", I don't think that the kids are to blame because the world that we live in is full of fast food and most schools only provide gym class twice a week. You shouldn't be so judgemental of today's youth, as I'm sure the elders of YOUR youthful times weren't exactly enthralled with your behavior and choice of dress.

Are you kidding? I think the kids today are better looking then ever, great hair cuts, clean stylish cloths, they all seem to keep up with body building and fashion in my area.
I grew up in the 1970's and we looked like slobs, long frizzy shaggy hair, old worn out dirty jeans, usually bad skin and an old dirty army jacket. That was terrible, the kids are much smarter with style these days.

Being 17, and a junior in high school, I probably qualify as a generation x child. I personally think that it is a bit harsh to be bashing our entire generation. I know very few people like this, and some of the worst-dressed people i know, are some of the nicest people i know. Most people aren't as horrible as you said they are. Not all people are fat slobs either. You can't honestly say that teenagers are the only fat people. How exactly can you say that none of us know happiness? I am personally very happy, and am a proud listener of COUNTRY music, which, is definately not hostile or hateful. If you just took a bit of time to look around, you would probably find some of us without parents, lacking money, but still acting better than you do, or most people your age. What i would like to know, is why people think that all problems come from teenagers. If you were in my position, you probably wouldn't like someone generalizing you either, so please don't do it to us. Everyone is different, and if people learned to treat others that way, maybe we wouldn't have so many problems. Thank you.

There are some youngsters that are rude, but rfmo my experience, I've found that the majority (by far) of rude people are the older ones e.g. 30 yrs old +. I'm sick of rude older women and occasionally men thinking that the world owes them. I always respect other people, that's a given, but it's kind of hard sometimes when they act all high and mighty and try to do things like cut in line, talk to others however they want etc.
