Rude "friend" wants to borrow $

My "friend" has had increasingly self-inflicted economic problems for years.  One of us (me) watched my spending, tried to make ends meet by gardening in order to supplement our food bill, sewing, lots of home cooking and baking, etc./all a continuous effort.  I and my family always had used or really old cars (one is eligibile for historic plates, even though we still use this truck), my friend always had new cars every 5 years.

She asked to borrow money because she was being foreclosed on.  My first suggestion was for her to downsize to a used car, get rid of the cable TV, make her adult live-at-home kids get jobs and pitch in, etc.  She became perturbed and said she deserved all those things.  Of course, no money was loaned.

They say money breaks up friendships.  How true.

Oh yes how true it is. But who need friends like that. Lending them money will leave you with less money and a lost friend. I know how you feel. I work hard and watch my spending too.

I had friends like that too. Not anymore, they are nothing but a pain in the butt and they think just because I work for a living, I should give ....err "borrow" my money to them. Yah Right.

You did the right thing. Now it is time to move on and cut those leaches out of your life. Life is so much better without them.

Besides, if your friend loses her home, Don't be surprised if she ask to move in with you.

Always entertaining when people very free with thier money are also broke, or expecting you to supplement their income.

I have friends that always have the top of the line electronic gear, cable TV, Cell Phones, High Price new cars etc. Then they complain to me about being broke. Takes real self control not to laugh at them!
